A Spring in your step?

These past few days of sunshine have been glorious, haven’t they? If you’ve been stuck inside with no hope of getting out before the day is done it will have been torture, but for many of us the onset of spring marks a real change in outlook. There are fabulous things about each of the seasons (including winter!) but the warmth of the sun, the appearance of the blossom, the daffodils, the crocuses, of spring lambs – of new life, in short – is accompanied for many of us by feeling a while lot better about each day.

Back in Genesis 1, God tells us that he created the seasons as part of a world he describes as very good. Paul tells us in Romans 1 that God’s creation reveals his glory. Psalm 19 says that creation proclaims God’s work. What do the seasons reveal to us of God’s glorious character and work? Built into this world God made is a pattern of death and resurrection that plays out without fail all around us. It bears quiet but faithful witness to the great story at the heart of history – Jesus’ death and resurrection. And, not only Jesus’ resurrection: Jesus’ resurrection is the guarantee of our own. “He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who lives in you.” (Romans 8:11) So as you enjoy the sun this week, remember Christ has been raised – and you will be too!
