Church Council
Our Parochial Church Council (PCC) is responsible, with the Vicar, for governing the life and ministry of the church, and meets every two months.
The PCC consists of:
- ‘ex officio’ members:
- Vicar and Associate Minister
- 2 Churchwardens
- 4 Deanery Synod representatives
- elected members: 9 elected lay members
- co-opted members: up to 2 co-opted members
As from 2009, PCC members are required to be registered as Trustees of the charity.
Our PCC members are listed below, along with their photographs and details of any particular responsibilities they hold on the PCC.
Further information about the roles on PCC
Churchwardens
The Churchwardens’ role has been described as Leadership, Labour and Love: Leadership in helping the Vicar to lead the church; Labour in maintaining the buildings and helping the church to run smoothly; Love in caring for the Vicar and his family and the members of the congregation.
PCC Lay Members
The lay (i.e. not clergy) members of the PCC are elected at the annual meeting in April and normally serve for a term of three years (unless filling a ‘casual’ vacancy, in which case they may serve for a further full term of three years).
Deanery Synod Representatives
They have an important role in helping to elect lay members of the General Synod of the Church of England. We are part of the Moseley/Shirley/Kings Norton deanery. The business of the deanery is discussed at Deanery Synod, which normally meets three times a year. Our Deanery Synod representatives are elected at the APCM for a term of three years (or the remainder thereof) and may serve two consecutive terms. They are ‘ex officio’ members of the PCC.
Co-opted Members
We are permitted to co-opt up to two further members of the PCC.
Standing Committee
The Standing Committee carries out the routine work of the PCC between PCC meetings, subject to any direction given by the PCC, and agrees the agenda for PCC. It consists of the Vicar, Associate Minister, Churchwardens and at least two other PCC members (normally including the Treasurer), chosen at the first meeting of the new PCC. It meets every two months between PCC meetings.
